Does the school provide instruments? It is highly recommended that
students provide their own instrument. However, if a family is financially
unable to provide an instrument at this time the school has a limited number
of instruments to loan out for student use. Please contact Mrs. Mrosko if this
is an area of concern.

What materials will I need? All band students are expected to provide
their own method book. Currently we are using the Standard of Excellence
Band Book 1.
Clarinet and Alto Saxophone players will need to provide their own reeds
and cork grease.
Trumpet and Trombone players are expected to provide their own valve or
slide oil.
Percussionists are required to provide their own sticks. Vic Firth SD1 general
is recommended.
*Financial assistance is available if needed*
All needed materials can be purchased through Shen-Valley Band in
Harrisonburg. See below for their contact information.
Are there any after school time commitments? Students will perform in 2-3
concerts at Montevideo during the school year. These performances occur
outside of the normal school day, and are an integral part of being a member
of the band. The performances allow us to show off our learning to our family
and friends.
Regular practice at home allows for the reinforcement of the skills learned in
the classroom and provides a basis for consistent growth throughout the
school year.
